Our guide, The Art of Hamptons Landscaping: Enhancing Your Property's Aesthetic with Beautiful Outdoor Spaces, presents an overview of essential landscaping features and design principles to help you create your dream garden escape, balancing practical necessity with stunning visual impact.

Created in harmony with the Hamptons surroundings, a well-executed landscape design will blend native plantings, hardscaping elements, and carefully selected outdoor features that elevate your property's appeal. Collaborating with experienced landscape architects and designers who deeply understand the East End's distinctive landscape will ensure a stunning result that complements your home's design and natural setting.

Our guide explores many Hamptons-inspired landscaping elements, including native plants, strategically positioned hardscaping, and focal features such as water elements or outdoor sculptures. Whether your property is ocean-front, dense woodland, or a quintessential country estate, our guide will help you design outdoor spaces that not only reveal and accentuate your home's unique setting but also provide endless enjoyment and relaxation opportunities.

Additionally, we delve into the benefits of functional landscaping, focusing on elements such as privacy screening, sustainable irrigation practices, and outdoor living areas that integrate effortlessly with your luxury property. With careful consideration and thoughtful planning, you can elevate your Hamptons property to new heights of elegance and sophistication, curating a landscape that captures the spirit of the East End and its cherished outdoor lifestyle.

Embracing Native Plantings and Trees in Hamptons Landscaping

Integrating native plantings and trees into your landscaping design not only enhances your property's visual appeal but also supports local ecosystems by providing essential habitats for native wildlife. These species are also adapted to the Hamptons' climate and soil conditions, making them low-maintenance and well-suited for the region.

Shrubs: Select indigenous shrubs like Bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica), Beach Plum (Prunus maritima), and Eastern Redbud (Cercis Canadensis) for their aesthetic appeal, as well as their valuable contributions to the local ecosystem.

Perennials: Incorporate eye-catching perennials native to the Hamptons, such as Montauk Daisy (Nipponanthemum nipponicum), Eastern Blue Star (Amsonia tabernaemontana), and Echinacea, for their hardiness, long-blooming seasons, and ability to attract pollinators.

Trees: Plant native trees, such as the Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) and American Holly (Ilex opaca), to create natural privacy screens and windbreaks, or to serve as striking focal points in your landscaping design.

Creating Balance with Hardscaping Elements

Incorporating hardscaping elements into your landscape design can provide balance, structure, and visual interest to your outdoor spaces. From garden pathways to retaining walls, hardscaping provides essential function while elevating your property's aesthetic appeal.

Garden Pathways: Craft meandering walkways using materials that complement your home's architectural style, such as flagstone, brick, or crushed gravel. Pathways add visual intrigue while guiding visitors through your outdoor spaces.

Retaining Walls: Whether composed of natural stone, brick, or concrete, retaining walls can add dimension to your landscaping, help prevent soil erosion on sloped properties, and even provide additional seating for outdoor gatherings.

Patios and Terraces: Design outdoor living spaces, such as patios and terraces, for leisure and entertainment. Choose materials and designs that blend seamlessly with your home's architecture and natural surroundings, ensuring a cohesive, inviting appeal.

Introducing focal features, such as water elements, sculptures, or unique plantings, into your Hamptons landscaping allows you to create a visually stunning environment that captures the imagination and elevates your property's elegance.

Water Features: Whether it's a tranquil koi pond, a cascading waterfall, or an ornate fountain, water features create a sense of serenity and luxury in your outdoor spaces. The soothing sound of water and its reflective qualities can enhance the atmosphere of your garden, drawing in both visitors and wildlife.

Sculpture and Art Installations: Including one-of-a-kind sculptures or art installations provides an opportunity to express your individual style and tastes. Position these eye-catching elements in strategic locations to create a dramatic visual impact and conversation pieces for guests.

Unique Plantings: Plant unexpected and unusual species, such as rare tree cultivars or uncommon perennials, to introduce an element of surprise and create visual excitement in your landscape design.

Functional Landscaping for Privacy and Sustainability

Your Hamptons property's landscaping should not only be beautiful but also serve practical purposes, such as providing privacy, sustainable water management, and functional outdoor living areas.

Privacy Screening: Strategically plant rows of trees, tall grasses, or hedges to create natural privacy screens for your property, offering a discreet barrier between you and neighboring homes.

Sustainable Irrigation: Opt for sustainable irrigation practices, such as drip irrigation or rainwater harvesting systems, to conserve water and protect the Hamptons' local environment.

Outdoor Living Spaces: Design functional outdoor living areas, such as kitchens, fire pits, or pergolas, to expand your home's living spaces and provide a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor entertaining.

Cultivating an Exquisite Hamptons Landscape

Creating a masterfully designed Hamptons landscape involves a delicate balance between visual appeal, functionality, and harmony with the natural environment. By embracing native plantings, integrating hardscaping elements, incorporating striking focal features, and ensuring the practicality of your design, you can curate an outdoor oasis that enhances your property's value and allure.

Upon opening a bottle of the 2018 Archimedes, one is welcomed by enticing aromas of cocoa, toffee, and raisins. Pouring and tasting reveals a wine that is dark in color. Rich, smooth tannins, and plush, mouth-coating flavors of mocha, cassis, and clove tantalizing the palate with hints of tobacco on the long finish. The 2018 Archimedes was aged for just over a year and a half in French oak barrels with a large portion of new wood. The final result is a beautifully integrated wine. With this wine we pay homage to Francis's Uncle Archimedes, who loved math and mechanics as much as his namesake.

San Felice Chianti Classico DOCG 2021 Produced entirely from native grapes, it is a typical, medium-bodied Chianti Classico, with a distinguished personality and notable for its elegance and pleasantness. The 2021 vintage was characterized by a mild and dry winter. The germination was consequently brought forward to the end of March for the earliest varieties and for the best exposed vineyards. On the nights of April 8 and 9, the temperature dropped a few degrees below zero, significantly reducing production. Thankfully the spring was rainy, allowing the plants to tolerate a long, hot summer. Production was poor but, as often happens, the small quantity corresponds to an excellent quality.

The Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 offers intricately woven layers of decadent flavor, complemented by exotic spice components and a refined tannin structure. It highlights all the best attributes of what defines Oakville as the epicenter for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Aging for 17 months in French oak Barrels (52% new).

Belle Glos Clark & Telephone Pinot Noir  Known for its iconic red wax top, Belle Glos is the perfect bottle to grab this National Red Wine Day. Enjoy the dark ruby color and lavish aromas of dark chocolate, vanilla bean, dark berries, and succulent peach cobbler. On the palate, this pinot noir is bold and sophisticated, layered with rich caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, and cranberry jelly. The texture is rich and velvety, which leads to a long, structured finish.

Elouan Pinot Noir This wine opens up with aromas of bright cherry, plum pie, cocoa nibs, and hints of baking spice. You’ll taste rich and well-balanced notes of raspberry jam, candied cranberry, wild bramble, and a lingering pepper finish on the palate. With incredible depth and concentration, this smooth, medium-finish pinot noir pairs perfectly with your favorite fall comfort foods - french onion soup, warm baguette slices, fresh pizza, or a well-curated charcuterie board.

2021 San Simeon Pinot Noir, Monterey The Riboli Family farms estate vineyards in Monterey in order to ensure the ultimate level of grape quality. The Sarmento and El Camino Real Vineyards embody our family's commitment to estate grown wines. Both vineyards share spectacular views of the Santa Lucia Highlands and were chosen for their well-drained, alluvial soils and cool, coastal microclimates. San Simeon Pinot Noir is a rich, fruit-driven wine with ripe flavors of strawberry and raspberry. The mouth is soft and round with a lingering finish. Aromas of bright red fruit, cinnamon, and oak spice are revealed on the fragrant nose – a perfect wine to enjoy for any end of summer occasion!

Balletto Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Made with estate grown grapes from the Russian River Valley, the Balletto Pinot Noir exhibits everything you would expect from a serious Pinot Noir. Combining the full and captivating aromatics with a delicate texture that defines the Balletto style of Pinot Noir. The overall impact is complex, impressive, and delicious.

The Baldacci Family Vineyards Fraternity Red Blend is a beautiful Napa Valley wine that’s perfect for these late summer days. The 2021 Fraternity Red Blend recently received 94 points from Decanter Magazine and is one of those special Napa wines that drinks really nicely without needing to be aged! The blend is made of Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), Petit Verdot (17%), and Syrah (9%). It shows off ripe pomegranate, blackberry and spice from the Cabernet, a gorgeous color and cocoa nuance from the Petit Verdot, and lovely floral notes from the Syrah. The wine is elegant and powerful, and perfect to cheers with this National Red Wine Day. It’s available via the winery website or at all Total Wine & More locations across the U.S.

Crosby Roamann is a boutique producer of minimal intervention wines in Napa. The proprietor Sean McBride, and his wife Juliana, believe that wine is a living thing that has transformative power – a bridge to the future, to the past, between people to share love, or to reminisce. For them, winemaking is a family affair – focused on making distinctive, limited allocation wines by hand with the greatest care, ensuring lively wines of character and a true sense of place. The Estate Merlot comes from an old vine, dry-farmed vineyard. These big vines grow in a deep clay soil near a tributary of the Napa River. The fruit was manually sorted and fermented in stainless steel, then aged twenty months in French oak barrels, 33% new. The Estate Cabernet is a very small production cuvee destined for eight plus years of bottle development, with at least three years to reach full maturity. With extraordinary purity of fruit, and delightful notes of cassis, dark cocoa, and blueberry, the wine finishes with a touch of spice.

Napa Valley's Flora Springs is a winery with rich history in the valley for over four decades producing exceptional wines embodying elegance and quality. The winery's flagship red wine, the 2019 Trilogy is a bold red blend worthy of special occasions. Trilogy is a classic Bordeaux blend of estate-grown varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. As one of Napa Valley’s first proprietary red wines, the 2019 Trilogy marks the winery’s 35th vintage of the distinctive red blend. Ripe and succulent, the wine has flavors of cassis, currant and black plum balanced with notes of vanilla crème and black licorice, a noteworthy bottle for the moments you want to remember.

Embracing the Work-from-Home Lifestyle in the Hamptons Real Estate

The paradigm shift in how people work, brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, has made the concept of working from home a permanent reality for many professionals. With this change, an increasing number of individuals are seeking residential properties that facilitate a productive and enjoyable work-from-home experience. For those looking to invest in Hamptons real estate, striking the perfect balance between luxurious living and optimal functionality for remote work has become a top priority. In this guide, we will delve into the essential factors to consider when choosing a Hamptons property that accommodates both a lavish lifestyle and a seamless work-from-home routine.

As you explore Hamptons real estate listings, understanding the nuances of different neighborhoods and their suitability for remote work will be crucial in securing your ideal home. Some villages, such as Sag Harbor and East Hampton, offer an eclectic mix of restaurants, boutiques, and essential amenities, providing opportunities for networking and rejuvenation during work breaks. Neighboring areas like Amagansett and Montauk, on the other hand, offer a more laid-back atmosphere and access to nature, catering to those seeking serenity and inspiration while working from home.

Selecting a Hamptons property with the right design features to accommodate your work-from-home setup is imperative. Homes with ample square footage, designated office spaces, and features that promote productivity, such as natural light and quiet surroundings, are key factors to consider when assessing properties that cater to remote work.

Striking that elusive balance between work and leisure is a cornerstone of the Hamptons lifestyle. Exploring the world-class amenities that make the Hamptons an ideal destination for work-life balance — from rejuvenating wellness centers to leisurely beachfront strolls — will be essential in crafting your holistic work-from-home experience.

Choosing the Right Hamptons Neighborhood for Remote Work

When selecting a Hamptons neighborhood that accommodates your work-from-home needs, it's essential to consider the local amenities and overall atmosphere of the area. Here are some factors to keep in mind for each neighborhood:

  • Sag Harbor: As a historic and culturally rich village, Sag Harbor offers a dynamic atmosphere for remote workers. Its eclectic mix of restaurants, boutique shops, and essential amenities allows for convenient breaks during the workday and networking opportunities with like-minded professionals.

  • East Hampton: Embodying both exclusivity and a laid-back ambiance, East Hampton offers remote workers the best of both worlds. The vibrant village center provides access to amenities, while the beautiful surroundings and tranquil atmosphere create an inspiring setting for focused work.

  • Amagansett: For those seeking serenity and a connection to nature, Amagansett offers a peaceful and secluded environment for remote work. The stunning coastline, access to hiking trails, and slower pace of life make this village ideal for those prioritizing relaxation and recharging while working from home.

  • Montauk: As the easternmost point of the Hamptons, Montauk is a haven for surfers, nature lovers, and those seeking a more casual atmosphere. The village's laid-back vibe creates a calming environment for remote work, further enhanced by access to pristine beaches and picturesque lighthouses.

Design Features for the Ideal Home Office Space

When choosing a Hamptons property that supports a productive work-from-home setup, it's crucial to consider the following design features:

  • Ample square footage: To accommodate a designated home office, a property with adequate living space is essential. Search for homes that provide enough room for comfortable office furnishings, file storage, and workspace that caters to your specific professional needs.

  • Designated office space: In an open-concept floor plan, ensuring that the home has a designated office space will be critical for maintaining a work-life balance. In the heart of Upper West Side, a district synonymous with New York luxury, stands The Laney, a beacon of refined living. This 79-unit boutique prewar gem at 201 West 77th Street isn't just a residence—it's a testament to New York's architectural legacy. Nestled between the iconic Central Park and Riverside Park, The Laney offers a harmonious blend of history and modernity.
The Olnick Organization, one of New York's premier developers, has meticulously restored this architectural marvel, originally crafted in 1929 by the illustrious Emery Roth. Its interiors, redefined by the renowned Peter Pennoyer Architects, resonate with timeless New York elegance. “We are excited to be the dedicated division for the leasing, sales, and marketing of this meticulously transformed classical building,” said Ryan Serhant of SERHANT. “The Laney honors the beauty of traditional prewar architecture, combined with top-of-the-line, modern finishes.”

Nestled between Central Park and Riverside Park, The Laney offers residents a harmonious blend of history and modernity. The building's amenities are a testament to its commitment to luxury, from an intimate private lounge and state-of-the-art fitness room to a whimsical Alice in Wonderland-themed children's playroom. “With the lack of rental supply on the Upper West Side, we had a vision of honoring this building’s legacy by bringing The Laney back to the splendor of what luxury living was like in 1929,” said Seth Schochet, President of The Olnick Organization.
