Alex Stupak's Empellón Expands to Upper West Side at Waterline Square

GID Development Group announced that renowned Mexican-inspired restaurant group Empellón, founded by highly-acclaimed restauranteur Alex Stupak, has signed a retail lease at Waterline Square, the starchitect-designed, three- tower development on Manhattan’s Upper West Side that offers a variety of residential opportunities and lifestyles. Ahead of the highly-anticipated opening of Cipriani’s first-ever large-format culinary experience at Waterline Square this year, the development adds another prominent and celebrated restaurant to its comprehensive lifestyle offering.

“We are creating an entire neighborhood at Waterline Square, and having amazing culinary options is an important component of that,” said James Linsley, President of GID Development Group. “Empellón joining us as a premier restaurant partner further cements the dynamic, well-rounded lifestyle experience that Waterline Square will provide, and signifies the important evolution of this waterfront neighborhood.”

The Waterline Square location marks the fifth Empellón restaurant for James Beard Award-nominated chef and founder Alex Stupak. The restaurant, scheduled to open in late 2019, will feature 3,298 square feet of interior space and 1,619 square feet of exterior space with a total of 140 seats, as well as a new menu tied to Empellón’s West Village roots. Empellón has additional locations in the East Village, West Village, Murray Hill and Midtown neighborhoods.

Designed by three of the world’s most celebrated and accomplished architects, Waterline Square is as an iconic collection of three luxury residential buildings on one of the last remaining waterfront development sites on the Upper West Side. One Waterline Square has been designed by Richard Meier and Partners Architects, Two Waterline Square by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and Three Waterline Square by Viñoly Architects. Waterline Square’s beautiful interiors have also been designed by a dream team of interior designers who have each brought a fresh, new aesthetic to the development, including Champalimaud Design, Yabu Pushelberg and Groves & Co.

Mitch Friedel of Newmark Knight Frank represented GID Development Group in the transaction.
