May The Fourth Be With You: A Star Wars Themed Bar Crawl

By Luis Lucero

This Saturday marks Star Wars Day (May 4th) Even for a fan holiday devoted to one of the biggest franchises in film history, there’s still quite

One of the more iconic scenes from the original Star Wars film was the Mos Eisley Cantina on Luke Skywalker’s desert home planet of Tatooine. So it’s very surprising that a Star Wars themed bar crawl had never been attempted up until now. Starting at The Bowery Electric (327 Bowery), the crawl includes eleven other bars along the east side of Manhattan. Participants wearing event wristbands are allowed entry to any of the participating bars without paying a cover, as well various drink discounts. Bar crawl wristbands can be purchased here. And of courses, costumes are always a plus!

The Empire Strips Back: A Star Wars Burlesque Parody

It’s no secret that Star Wars has inspired tons of derivative works from fans over the years (many of which were embraced by series creator George Lucas) But this critically acclaimed Australian stage show takes the mythos and brings a more….risque approach. After an acclaimed US run last year, The Empire Strips Back made another stateside run for 2019, ending on Star Wars Day at the PlayStation Theater in Times Square. Fans looking to see such sights like a Stormtrooper chorus line and a de-metaled C-3PO revealed to have a female form should look no further than this show. Tickets can be bought here.

Movies R Dumb: The Star Wars Holiday Special

Star Wars Day usually focuses on the best parts of said franchise. Over in Astoria, Queens however, the performance space Q.E.D. is dedicating an entire evening to the infamous 1978 TV special that Lucas doesn’t want people to see. As part of their “Movies R Dumb” program, which features local comedians mocking cheesy B-movies, four local comedians will gather together for a live riff session of the special, as well as clips from the softcore porn parody, Star Wars XXX. Tickets can be bought here.
