Young Prodigy Mikail Akar is Taking the Art World by Storm
By Lauren Wire
At the tender age of 10, Mikail Akar may not be old enough to have his own credit card, drive a car or even watch PG-13 movies, but he is making major waves in the art world. The profoundly talented painter has had his work showcased worldwide and has been included in exhibitions around the globe. As a contemporary artist, Mikail draws his inspiration from famed names like Jackson Pollock, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Gerhard Richter.
This year Mikail has already taken New York by storm with his exhibition “UNBELIEIVEABLE” at the Modus10 – Rolf Benz Flagship Store in SoHo which comprised of 23 works on canvas and paper of various sizes priced from $8K - $16K. His art was also included as a part of the ArtExpo New York Fine Art Fair 2023 at Pier 36 and he held a live painting at the Empire State Building with graffiti artist Luca. His art shows attracted luminaries from the arts and New York social scene including Loris Diran, Kerem Akar, Elvan Akar, Mina Akar, Francis Tan, Vincent Tam, Carmen D’Alessio, Tina Radziwell, Eric Lewis, George Wayne, Montgomery Frazier, Minnie Osmena, 0H10 M1KE, Cagri Kanver, Marsin Mogielski, Jose Castelo Branco, to name a few.
Mikail has also held several exhibitions in cities across Germany including his hometown of Cologne, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, where international art collectors soon became aware of the young artist. This led to other shows in Vienna, Zurich, Istanbul, and New York City.
Shockingly some of his most prolific pieces only took him several hours to complete. His artistic journey is a family affair as well, with his talent being encouraged by his parents. As a visual artist, he does not want to limit himself to canvases either, finding new mediums to paint such as a wreckage part of an Airbus 310 and the hood of a Rolls-Royce motorcar.
Mikail’s youthful personality is as vibrant as his colorful art. Though a kid at heart, he knows how to entertain the room, thoughtfully sharing his artistic approach with art experts and novices alike. One moment he is expertly answering interview questions on-camera, and the next he doodling new creations on post-card size paper for guests to take home.
The young artist also has a philanthropic side and has gained notable attention with his work being auctioned for good causes such as the “Art Helps to Give” campaign. One of his most recent collaborations has been with the mineral water brand, Gerolsteiner with the Mikail Akar Artist Edition, where Mikail’s art was printed on more than 17 million water bottles. Other projects which Mikail is currently working on include painting a series of three classic cars which will be going on a roadshow. In addition, he is working to create a 165 ft. (50 meter) long canvas painting for a secret project.
Be sure to look out for Mikail’s upcoming work and purchase your own piece for your home.
