The Hippie Fashion Trends Making A Comeback
Although many of us were not around to have been part of the original hippie movement, it does not mean that we cannot now join in on everything good that the movement during the 60s and 70s had to offer. After the music and festivals, such as Woodstock, hippies are most famous for their choice of clothing. Whilst some of the things that they used to wear we are happy to see the back of, there were some things that were iconic and that are still fashionable to this very day. Some of these style choices are listed below.
Flared pants
The staple of any self discerning hippie, a pair of flared jeans or trousers looks great paired with a longer, free flowing top and a pair of flat heeled shoes. A more modern twist on this iconic garment are bell bottom pants and can actually be very flattering for lots of women, regardless of their body shape. You can even try matching them with a tall pair of heels in order to make your legs look longer and a tighter fitting shirt or a tee shirt that is tucked into the pants in order to show off your waist line.
Over sized sunglasses
The key here was to resemble some sort of bug as best as possible - a very fashionable and chic bug of course. Many hippy women opted for wearing round and very large sunglasses. This is a look that can be easily recreated for the modern day, with all of the major fashion houses, such as Gucci and Prada, and even high street retailers producing sunglasses with a very similar silhouette. However, they now come in more differing colours and with greater amounts of detail on them.
Crop tops
It was often the case with hippie women that they would wear as high of a crop top as possible, whilst at the same time wearing very low pants - putting as much of their torso on show as possible. However, times have changed and so instead of pairing with low cut jeans, try wearing a crop top with a pair of high waisted trousers instead, thus creating a much more sophisticated look.
Bright floral prints
Hippies were all about nature and embracing natural colours, and so it is no surprise then that floral prints that made use of bright colours were highly popular during the 60s and 70s. This style choice was so popular with some women of the age that they wore it all over, from head to toe. Whilst we would not recommend doing that today, picking one bright and bold floral piece can have the same effect whilst not being too out there.
