Winter can be a hard time for your skin - particularly if you already suffer from dry or sensitive skin, and since it’s not always practical or even necessary to go splurging on the latest moisturising creams that cost a small fortune.

You can easily achieve the same results with some simple things you’ve probably already got lying around the house, and if not, you can pick them up easily and cheaply without worrying about overly harsh chemicals.

Of course if you do suffer from any particular skin sensitivities, allergies, or otherwise, then it’s important to consult a dermatologist before trying out anything on your skin. If you need help finding a dermatologist in your area, then you should speak to your doctor or have a search for medicaid doctors who can point you in the right direction.

If you’re good to go, then check out some of our tips below to help keep your skin hydrated and protected from the effects of winter.

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is such a versatile product that can be used for everything from cooking and cleaning, to mouthwash and after sun. It’s also one of the best things to use for prevention and treatment of dry skin - especially in winter.

Depending on the extent of your dry skin, the best way to use coconut oil is by applying it to your damp skin after a bath or shower.

You can use it on your face to keep it protected and even on your scalp as a conditioning treatment - just make sure to wash it out properly or else you’ll run the risk of looking like someone has been cooking on your head.

Infused Water:

Water is something that is great for keeping your skin hydrated and looking good anyway, but if you don’t like plain water and want to add some flavour, or you want to add some extra vitamins and hydration-boosting ingredients, then adding a few slices of cucumber, some pomegranate seeds, or even raspberries will give a nice flavour and the extra hydration and vitamins are great for your skin.

Coffee:

Coffee scrubs are known for their great effects on the skin, but buying them or having them done at a spa can be quite pricey, so why not make your own when it’s just as good? To make your own coffee scrub at home, use 2-3 teaspoons of fresh ground coffee and mix with brown sugar and coconut oil. You can use this just on your face or on your whole body to unclog pores, exfoliate and brighten skin, remove cellulite, and much more.

Tea Tree Oil:

This is particularly effective against dry, irritated and very sensitive skin and scalp. You

Can either add a few drops of the pure oil into your shampoo, shower gel, and  moisturiser before using, or you can buy specially formulated products containing the oil. Either way, you’ll see that the soothing effects of this oil will help keep your skin hydrated and protected.

So, there you have it. These are just a few of the many products that are cheap and easy to get a hold of and that will help you keep your skin protected during the harsh winter cold.
