In celebration of Holi, the traditional Indian festival of colors, Waterline Square partners with The Culture Tree to host special family programming on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 4:30-6pm at Waterline Square Park*.
The event will feature Indian dance workshop and performance, puppet storytime, art activities, Indian drummers and powder play. More information is available here.
This Holi celebration will include a colorful and vibrant dance performance inspired by a blend of Bollywood, folk and semi-classical choreography, which is paired with popular songs on Holi. The performance will be followed by an energetic and engaging Holi-inspired Bollywood and Bhangra dance lesson to get visitors on their feet, dancing and celebrating the arrival of spring. The celebration will conclude with an Indian drummer playing favorite Holi beats, while the attendees play with gulaal (traditional powdered color).Visitors can also sample some Indian cuisine enjoyed during this annual holiday.
Holi has been celebrated in the Indian subcontinent for centuries and has origin stories dating back to the 4th century CE. Holi marks the arrival of spring after a cold winter. It is celebrated in March, corresponding to the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna. It is now celebrated around the world as a way to welcome spring, embrace inclusivity and get messy with color. It is one of the biggest festivals from the region.
