Padel Haus, New York City’s 1st padel facility, is opening in Williamsburg this weekend on Sunday, July 10.
Often referred to as the fastest-growing sport in the world, padel is making its debut in New York City(NYC) at Padel Haus, a 16,000-square-foot members club and upscale fitness destination with four professional-size padel courts. Opening in July at 307 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Padel Haus will also include New York’s only padel pro shop, locker rooms with showers, a co-ed steam room, an elevated viewing lounge and an organic juice bar that will be open to the public.
Padel Haus was founded by Santiago Gomez, co-founder of popular New York City Mexican restaurants Cosme and Atla and certified padel professional.“I played padel for almost 20 years while growing up in Mexico and spending my summers in Acapulco, where the sport was invented,” recalls Gomez.“When the pandemic hit in 2020, I went back to Acapulco and made padel a part of my routine, playing every day. When I eventually returned to New York, I realized that the sport was one of the things the city was missing, and the idea for Padel Haus was born.”
Padel Haus arrives on the heels of racquet sports’ growing popularity in the United States. While padel is the fastest growing sport in the world and is played in nearly 100countries, Padel Haus will be the first padel facility in New York City, joining only a handful in the United States. Played by celebrities worldwide, padel combines elements of tennis and squash. It is always played in doubles and utilizes the court walls in play. A padel racquet is made of a composite material and covered in small holes, and the ball is similar to a tennis ball.
Designed by interior designer Bianca Chevallard and SBLM Architects, Padel Haus will exude a modern aesthetic, boasting white oak wood floors and casings with matte black and concrete accents throughout. The locker rooms will feature lime wall finishes, fluted glass shower doors, large format gray terrazzo tile flooring and stacked matte sage green wall tiles, while the elevated Players’Deck social lounge will feature white oak floors with marble top café tables, black sofas and ebonized oak accents. The sleek, curved juice bar in the reception will include a striking black counter top with a stainless-steel band juxtaposed against white fluted wood for a clean and minimal aesthetic.“
With Padel Haus, my first wellness space project,I wanted to add warm design elements to an otherwise industrial space,” says Chevallard. “ Padel Haus will stand out from other racquet sports facilities for its surprising focus on contemporary and modern design, and will provide a practical yet inviting atmosphere for padel players to gather, from tournaments on the courts to post-match drinks in the lounge.”
Today, memberships at Padel Haus cost $150 per month with a one-time $490initiation fee. Members enjoy priority court bookings, discounted pricing ($35 per person per hour), access to leagues and tournaments, locker rooms and showers, and access to the Players’Deck. Padel Haus will also boast a digital experience for players to reserve courts, view upcoming tournaments, and more through a Padel Haus app.Non-members can book hourly court reservations for $55 per person per hour, with a maximum of three bookings per month. Padel Haus will also launch an academy for kids and adults led by certified padel coaches.
