Essex, CT

For all those looking to visit a historic, quaint town, look not further than Essex, CT. With this town being the basis of the hit TV show “Gilmore Girls”, one can imagine why it is a must see. Made up of three villages, Essex leaves behind a great amount of history. It is one of the few American towns to ever be attacked by a foreign power. During the war of 1812, the town was rampaged by the British and when taking a stroll down Main Street you will notice some of the original buildings.

The small town has a lot to offer as the village shops and Colonial homes still remain. If looking for a place to stay, the Griswold Inn has been welcoming customers dating all the way back to 1776. Live music is played throughout the week and the five dining rooms offer historic menus that will make you feel like you traveled back in time.

Take in the natural beauty of this town by enjoying a boat tour on the Connecticut River or take a stroll through the beautiful town park. One might also want to stop by the maritime history exhibit to gain more historical perspective. There really is no way to go wrong when visiting. Just take in the sights, delicious food, and serene atmosphere.

There is a reason Essex was named the “Perfect Small American Town” in 1,000 Places to See Before You Die. So get out there and experience the true magic of this town.
