Halstead, a leading real estate firm in the New York metropolitan area, today announced an invitation-only event showcasing an archive of celebrated photographer Michael Weinstein’s celebrity candids, including Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart and Ray Charles, to be unveiled at 31 Perry Street, a nearly 9,000 square-foot-townhouse in Greenwich Village. Richard Orenstein, a leading broker at Halstead’s Downtown office is the agent for the exclusive listing.
Michael Weinstein, known for his elevated photography of high-end properties throughout New York City, will be unveiling an archive of never-before-seen photographs from his earlier days as a rock and roll photographer over the last forty years. The archive includes behind-the-scenes and on-stage photos of legendary artists and musicians such as Rick James, Elvis Costello, Rod Stewart, and Patti Smith, amongst others.
Michael’s career began in 1978 at the Ross-Ehlert Photo Lab, one of Chicago’s most well-known labs, where he worked as a printer in the Black and White film department. At this same time, rock and roll was in the midst of the golden years - the perfect formula for some of the best music photography the world has never seen. Michael spent his days at Ross-Ehlert printing for work, and every night he would photograph shows and venues all over the Chicago area. Up until now, Michael grew his namesake MW Studio, one of NYC’s top real estate photography studios. After spending the past few years archiving all of his music photography from the special time of the late 70s and early 80s, he is premiering for the first time ever this curated collection of photos featuring some of rock and roll biggest stars. The show represents an opening into the past, and the film negatives - sitting in storage for so many years - have the quality of a time capsule.
