When it comes to impressing friends with a phenomenal charcuterie board, there’s no better time to show off your pairing skills than National Wine and Cheese Day on July 25th. The experts at family owned and operated Kenefick Ranch Winery, are making it easy for aficionados to put together perfect pairings that combine wonderful wine and carefully crafted cheese. With the summer holiday right around the corner, I wanted to share some local options that are great for all cheese and wine filled festivities.
Experts at Kenefick recommend the below pairings:
2016 Picket Road White ($24): The aromatic profile of this delicious white is made up of anise notes, floral essence, honeydew melon, and citrus blossoms. All of this is underlined by a rich grapefruit, white peach presence on the entry. A creamy middle palate supported by a crisp finish. A truly delicious wine from first sip that pairs phenomenally with creamy, soft cheeses such as goat or Havarti. The fruitiness of the wine is combatted with the milkiness of the cheese, meeting somewhere in the middle on the palate.
Goat
Havarti
2013 Petite Sirah ($45): Those who prefer a red to a white, will love the bright berry notes that this petite sirah embodies. With Silky layered tannins underlined by blackberry preserve and tamarind flavors, this full-bodied red wine pairs perfectly with a harder cheese, such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Manchego. The slightly sharp notes and boldness of these accoutrements heighten the plum aromatics and leave everyone wanting more.
