USA’s Best Spots for Breathtaking Fall Foliage

The Catskills, New York

Upstate New York has tons of stunning fall foliage to offer, and the Catskills are home to some of the most beautiful. Home to six major river systems, 35 mountain peaks, and many enchanting fall harvests, you won’t want to miss any of it. The Catskills are also the home of the famed Woodstock festival, so you know they can put on markets and fairs you’ll remember for years to come.

Stowe, Vermont

There’s not much Stowe does wrong, and fall is no exception. There are numerous trees and plants, and they’re even more stunning with varying shades of red, orange, brown, and tallow. From September to mid-October, you’re in for beautiful hikes and horse rides. You won’t want to miss everything this town has to offer.

Telluride, Colorado

Nearly everywhere in Colorado has beautiful fall sights to see, but we love Telluride for its small town and its incredible views. Consider a cozy Telluride mountain village rental as your base for exploring the area. Take a guided trip and go horseback riding through the mountains—you’ll get to see all the natural beauty of the area during the most colorful season. There’s so much to explore in the town, so plan your trip out there as soon as possible.

Columba River Gorge, Oregon

Take a break from Oregon’s wine country, and head to the vast Columbia River Gorge, which is home to over 50 waterfalls. October and November are full of vibrant fall colors perfect for a mid-day bike ride or a morning hike. If you’d prefer to sit and admire the colors from the car, you can head out along the scenic Columbia River Highway.

Hamilton County, Indiana

The Midwest also has some of the most beautiful autumnal views, and Hamilton County gives you stunning views from high in the sky. The Conner Prairie history park has hot air balloon rides that lift you 350 feet in the air to enjoy views of the fall woodlands, the White River, and Indianapolis’ skyline. If heights scare you, pack a picnic and envelope yourself in the enchanting surroundings.

Upper Peninsula, Michigan

No matter which town you decide to stay in, you’re sure to get your fill of color-changing trees. Michigan’s forest system is the largest in the eastern U.S. with about four million acres of trees. The captivating autumnal color scheme is properly complemented by the azure waters found all over. Walk through the town centers and their fall fests, and transport yourself to a classic fall postcard.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

There are so many amazing things to do, places to eat, and sights to see in Cape Cod, and when you come in the fall, all of those amazing aspects are elevated even more. Biking in Cape Cod is one of the best ways to get around, so you’ll see all the best spots on your ride with breathtaking fall colors around you. There are many different fests, so you’ll get to fall even more in love with the quaint atmosphere—soak it in!
