As the weather gets warmer and the world starts opening up again, Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery - home to Hudson Whiskey - is the perfect getaway right outside of NYC. This whiskey distillery (that your readers probably didn’t know existed) is teeming with history and an ideal activity for both day trips and short weekend escapes. Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery, a pioneer of the American craft whiskey movement and was New York’s first whiskey distillery to open after prohibition. The Tuthilltown Gristmill was also the longest continuously operating gristmill in New York State history and given a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Tuthilltown is in the heart of the Hudson Valley located near several attractions like Storm King, the Shawangunk Wine Trail, Mohonk Mountain House, Huguenot Street, and much more. The distillery is currently open for tastings, bar service, and shopping in their gift shop. Guests will be delighted to try all the reinvented Hudson Whiskey variants such as Bright Lights Big Bourbon, Do The Rye Thing, Short Stack, and Backroom Deal, in addition to spirits like Half Moon Orchard Gin and Apple Vodka, sold exclusively at the distillery. Ample outdoor seating allows visitors to sit back, enjoy the history and tasteful whiskey of course. Due to Covid-19 regulations, full tours and access to production areas are currently closed but will be opening as soon as it is possible to safely and responsibly do so.

What To Do

When in Hudson, be sure to check out the Carrie Haddad Gallery which highlights regional artists and is Hudson’s oldest existing gallery space. With Hudson becoming a center of all things art, be sure to check out, one of the firsts to learn about amazing artists. Established in 1991, this gallery represents mid-career and emerging artists of the Hudson Valley and beyond in painting, sculpture, mixed media, and photography.
