At 86 years old, Pritzker Prize-winning Portuguese master architect Alvaro Siza thought he would never design a building in New York City, let alone a skyscraper. Now, Siza's first ever building in the U.S. - a 37-story tower hugging Manhattan's West Side and the Hudson River - has been fully unveiled ahead of the residential building's launch later this month

For over six decades Siza has been creating sculptural works celebrated for their elegant restraint and poetic modernism, gaining a cult-like status in the architecture world. Having assembled a body of work that makes him one of the greatest living architects, and at an age when other Pritzker Prize-winning architects are winding down their activity, Siza has taken on his biggest project yet: 611 West 56th Street.

The sculptural exuberance of 611 West 56th Street is a striking addition to the Manhattan skyline, a limestone tower that sharply contrasts with a sea of glass and metal. The building’s monolithic shape and Turkish limestone façade, which culminates in an impressive four-story limestone crown, is a mesmerizing stone monument and anchors one of NYC’s most exciting neighborhoods for contemporary architecture.

The interiors are designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates, the award-winning interior architecture and design studio behind 152 Elizabeth (with Tadao Ando). The warm yet minimalist interiors feature a mix of modern materials and custom finishes that meld timeless craft with a refined vision of modernity, seamlessly connecting to Siza's sculptural design.

Construction is well underway, with sales launching later this month. One-bedroom residences beginning at $1.26 million and offers buyers the opportunity to live in a one-of-a-kind building designed by one of the most important living architects.

The renderings provide a first look at Siza’s poetic design and reveal new project details including the building’s elegant grid, sculptural crown and interiors designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates.

611 West 56th Street was co-developed by Sumaida + Khurana and LENY.
