Tourists often flood high-profile locations such as Paris or Rome, eager to witness their stunning sites. However, there are so many other amazing lesser-known locations all over the world that deserve your attention. Plus, you’ll get a more intimate look at their unique cultures and sites as tourists won’t be overloading their town. If you’re in the market for an exciting new location to add to your travel bucket list, these under-rated travel destinations around the world are perfect for you.

Puglia, Italy

Puglia is a slower paced alternative to Italy’s more popular destinations such as Tuscany or Florence. Forming the heel of the boot-shaped country, Puglia is home to century-old farmland, sun-bleached hill towns, and miles of Mediterranean coastline. Olive groves and vineyards populate its rural landscape while you can find secluded picturesque coves, rugged cliffs, and soft sandy beaches along its coast. While you are there, be sure to try out its remarkable local cuisine which involves an authentic, traditional Italian-style of cooking called cucina povera.

Isla Boca Brava, Panama

Located in the far west of Panama on the Gulf of Chiriquí, travelers frequently overlook Isla Boca Brava. However, we suggest giving this beautiful destination another look—some of the best scuba diving spots in Central America can be found along its coast. Frequently coined as the “New Galapagos,” its jungles and turquoise waters are replete with a diverse array of wildlife such as humpback whales, manta rays, dolphins, and whale sharks.

Valparaíso, Chile

Chile’s second-largest city is one of the most vibrant locations on Earth. From the multicolored houses that populate its steep roads to the attention-grabbing street art that you can find around every corner, Valparaíso is a unique, hidden gem. While you are perusing its vivacious streets, you can stop for a tour at the former residence of the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, which was made into a museum with scenic views of the Pacific.

León, Nicaragua

Founded in 1524, León is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. In addition to its breathtaking, uncrowded beaches, it is also home to the immense León Cathedral; it features a breathtaking blend of baroque and neoclassical architecture. There is also the Centro de Arte Fundación Ortiz-Gurdián which includes an impressive collection of Latin American and European contemporary art. Another noteworthy attraction located near the city is the Momotombo Volcano and the ruins of the medieval city of León Viejo located near its base.

These under-rated travel destinations around the world are sure to provide you with unique and exhilarating experiences that you’ll never forget.
